Job Description:
A Dubai–based media & publishing company is seeking to recruit a Managing Editor for a monthly business magazine on Arab affairs. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 6 years relevant experience in a weekly/monthly publication that has an emphasis on business and political coverage. A strong background in serious investigative journalism is a must and newswire/daily experience is a plus.

At the helm of a small team, you are an open–minded individual with excellent organizational and management skills. With a honed sense of discipline, you strive for perfection in all tasks you undertake. You know how to plan for and achieve deadlines and how to ensure that your team and correspondents (both local and abroad) adhere to deadlines in an environment where change is the only constant. You must be an inspired delegator, manager and motivator.

Working with various nationalities, you learn fast and adapt to new cultures, and to the fast pace of a region that is in the midst of economic and political change. You must have a firm grasp of the regions business and politics, but at the same time you remain 100 percent unbiased and neutral. You are a results–driven idealist with a passion for promoting positive change in the region. You are a problem solver who knows how to identify and implement quick solutions. You learn from your mistakes and apply the right procedures to overcome them.

You have excellent writing skills and know how to compose strong articles, feature stories and profiles. You are able to quickly edit copy from correspondents writing in English as a second language. Your interviewing skills are superb, and you are equally at ease talking to a business leader, a Fortune 500 CEO or a blue–collar worker. With a good visual sense, you provide the art director with creative scope, while still controlling the outcome. You know how to gather information and follow leads for original, in–depth investigations.

Covering various industries, you will be expected to bridge the gap between the West and the Middle East in the magazines coverage. Understanding the challenges facing various industries and the region as a whole, you are able to put issues into their proper context.

You have a good background in Middle East politics and are interested in learning more. In your spare time you are an avid reader, traveler and linguist.

This is a full–time, permanent position based in Dubai, UAE. No distance editors or freelancers need apply.

Salary: USD 65 000.00 – 80,000 per year (based on experience) + company sponsorship + company medical insurance.
