The Head of Middle School will report directly to the Principal of School and will be responsible for:
• Day to day management of the Dar al Marefa Middle School within the spirit of the school‘s Mission Statement;
• Development of the International Baccalaureate MYP programme in the Middle School curriculum;
• Providing all teachers in the Middle School with a strong professional development programme, including the IB Diploma training of teachers in collaboration with the school’s IB Diploma Coordinator;
• Undertaking the professional appraisal of all teaching colleagues, following the agreed school-wide policy laid down by the Head of School;
• Supporting teaching colleagues in their different roles and undertaking disciplinary measures where appropriate;
• Advising the Head of School on Middle School staffing, budgetary and facilities needs;
• Recruiting Middle School teachers in close collaboration with the Head of School;
• Controlling and maximizing the use of assigned staff, the allocated Middle School budget, and the use of Middle School facilities;
• Working closely with other Heads of the school in the development of and coordinating the school-wide schedule and the use of facilities;
• Interviewing all new families who have applied for entry into the Middle School and following the admissions policies laid down by the Governing board;
• Maintaining a friendly, open, supportive but firm relationship with parents and their representatives in the spirit of the school’s Mission Statement;
• Providing a support programme for those students who have educational needs;
• Undertaking the provision of all teaching materials necessary for the teachers in their teaching programmes;
• Meeting with other Heads on a regular basis, consulting with them on matters of curriculum design, the development of school-wide policy manuals, student welfare, teaching resources, the physical development of the campus, relationships with the local community, etc;
• Supervising the safety and general welfare of Middle School students, including working in close collaboration with the School Nurse on health matters;
• Providing a process of reporting regularly to parents on student academic and social development and ensuring that all parents are aware of the school’s procedures for following up their concerns;
• Requiring that all lines of appropriate communication within the school are respected and that they are well known by all parents and employees in the Middle School;
• Representing the school in educational conferences and making certain that others with curriculum development responsibilities in the Middle School also have this opportunity;
• Liaising with the school’s registrar to make certain that Middle School student records are maintained;
• Working closely with those responsible for counseling and guidance so that all students are well prepared for entry into further education after they graduate from the Middle School;
• Meeting regularly with teaching staff and involving them directly in aspects of curriculum design, behavioral expectations for students, their daily routines and the school’s expectations of them, the timetable, and the future development of the Middle School in its widest context;
• Meeting regularly with parent representatives, advising and consulting with them on school and wider school community matters, and taking every opportunity to emphasize how the school’s Mission Statement will influence their child’s education in the school.
